Welcome to The Careers Department (ACN: 167 522 652) (we, us or our). Your (you, user) access to The Careers Department Platform/s (services, website, social media channels, resources or platform is conditional upon your acceptance of and compliance with all terms, conditions, notices and disclaimers contained in this Agreement and anywhere else on The Careers Department Platform/s.

We may immediately suspend access and/or terminate an account of any User believed to be in breach of this Agreement. We reserve the right to change the terms of this Agreement at any time, and you should check the Agreement from time to time for that reason. We will provide notification via the The Careers Department platform/s and by email (if we have your email address) of any substantial changes to this Agreement. If we amend this Agreement and you do not notify us to the contrary, your continued use of the The Careers Department/s will constitute your acceptance of the amended Agreement terms.

Access And The Careers Department's Obligations

By becoming a User you will gain access to exclusive content on the The Footnotes Platform/s. We will use reasonable endeavours to ensure your access is uninterrupted and error free, however we cannot provide any guarantees that all information will be accessible at all times or on all devices. You are responsible for the costs of establishing and maintaining an internet connection to access The Footnotes Platform/s and any associated ancillary costs.

We may at any time and without notice, modify, suspend or terminate the operation of, or access to the Services, or any part of, for any reason, to interrupt the operation of the Services, or any part of, as necessary to perform maintenance, error correction or other changes.

In undertaking its role The Careers Department will use reasonable endeavours to:

  • Provide you with a site that displays information about jobs, study, travel, gap years, companies, careers and money management; offers an online collection of resources including links to job searches, course searches and financial providers; displays employment, education, opportunities on behalf of our partners; and related products and services on behalf of our partners (Services).
  • Ensure all information on The Careers Department platform is up to date to the best of its knowledge. However, The Careers Department will not be liable for any incorrect or incomplete information displayed on The Careers Department platform/s or for any comments or information posted by users or other third parties.
  • Store and use any information (including Personal Information) which you provide as a user in compliance with the law.

The views which are expressed on The Careers Department Platform/s are not The Careers Department’s views and The Careers Department accepts no liability in respect of any material posted and is not responsible for its content and accuracy. The purpose of this product is to challenge, inform and shape careers decisions; however the ‘storytelling’ nature of this product means that it is not a substitute for independent professional career advice

From time to time, we work with industry partners to create real-world career content and learning experiences. Their inclusion does not represent preference, and users are encouraged to explore all employers. Our goal is to provide broad, unbiased exposure to a wide range of industries and career pathways.

User Obligations

As a user, you are part of a community of people using The Careers Department platform/s. We require that all users comply with certain standards of behaviour when using The Careers Department Platform/s, uploading or downloading content or otherwise acting in your capacity as a user or related to The Careers Department Platform/s. The standards required of users are set out below.

  • The Careers Department Platform/s is only available for your personal use, or as provided for by your school, and is not to be used for any business or commercial purpose. You will not use The Careers Department/s for the purpose of advertising, promoting or soliciting any goods or services, or otherwise engaging in trade or commerce.
  • You must respect all users and contributors to The Careers Department Platform/s and not make any remarks which are illegal, defamatory or likely to offend other users or infringe upon any third party’s rights. We may immediately remove any content submitted by any user at any time.
  • You are solely responsible for your engagement and contributions to The Careers Department platform/s. You must not knowingly post or transmit or permit the posting or transmission of any material, which contains a computer virus or anything else which may compromise security of The Careers Department platform/s or be harmful to other users or The Careers Department platform/s.
  • You should advise us of any changes to the information submitted in your user registration form. We will do our best to update these details once notified.
  • You must not submit, post or display any User Content that:
    • you do not have permission, right or license to use;
    • is objectionable, offensive, unlawful, deceptive or harmful;
    • is personal, private or confidential information belonging to others;
    • requests personal information from a minor;
    • impersonates or misrepresents your affiliation with another person or entity;
    • transmits spam, including unauthorised advertising or promotional materials; or
    • is illegal, fraudulent, or manipulative.
  • We may remove User Content which is inappropriate or is in breach of these Terms of Use without notice.

Your Account

In order to access the full services of The Careers Department platform/s you must make an account. You must not create an account for anyone other than yourself.

As part of the user application form you may be required to provide certain information about yourself. You must complete all requisite fields when creating your account and all information you provide us with, will be true, accurate, current and complete and you must not create an account for anyone other than yourself. You should review our Privacy Policy for full details on the types of personal information we collect, its purpose and how we handle it. Where we gather any Personal Information it will be handled in accordance with Australian privacy laws and the provisions of this Agreement and our Privacy Policy.

You will create a password for your user account which you can change from time to time. You must keep this password secure and not allow others to access your account. You are solely responsible for maintaining the confidentiality and security of your account. You must notify us immediately of any authorised use of your account. We are not liable for any loss or damage arising in connection with any unauthorised use of your account.

In respect to The Careers Department platform:

  • Student and Child users who access their account with The Careers Department in association with their school will automatically grant access to their profile details and activity for school administration accounts. By creating an account through a school license, the user agrees to these terms.
  • Student and Child users who create their account through a parent license automatically grant access to their profile details and activity for the purchaser / parent account. By creating an account through a parent subscription license, the user agrees to these terms.
  • Student and Child users have the option to give users who have purchased a parent license access to their account details and activities. Student and Child users will be notified of any requests to gain access to their account and have the option to accept or decline it. By accepting the user request, the user agrees to the parent user having access to their account.

Data

We may monitor usage, perform statistical analysis of user activity and characteristics in order to measure interest in and use of the various areas on The Careers Department Platform/s and to inform ourselves and others of such information. You acknowledge that non-personal information and data may be automatically collected through the standard operation of The Careers Department’s internet servers or through the use of cookies. If you do not want information collected through the use of cookies, you should use your browser’s cookie disabling feature. You should note, however, that if cookies are disabled certain features may not be available. The use of cookies on The Careers Department Platform/s enables us to deliver and maintain customised options when you make return visits to the site. 

Terminating A User Account

You may terminate your user account at any time by providing us with notice in writing to hello@thecareersdepartment.com.

We may terminate your user account at any time including if you breach any terms of the Agreement or if we decide to cease operating The Careers Department Platform/s or offering user accounts. We will provide notice to you in writing using the contact information provided in your user registration form in the event of a termination.

In the event the account is terminated we will remove all account information from our systems within 30 days of receiving a request. You will not be entitled to any credit or payment as part of your account.

Social Media

As part of The Careers Department Platform/s you may elect to connect with us through various social media channels such Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vimeo, YouTube and LinkedIn. In order to connect you will be required to set up your own account with the relevant social media site and you will be subject to terms and conditions prescribed by the operators of such sites. The Careers Department is in no way associated with or endorsed by any social media channels and is not responsible for any content posted by users or other third parties through such sites.

Governing Law

As part of The Careers Department Platform/s you may elect to connect with us through various social media channels such Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vimeo, YouTube and LinkedIn. In order to connect you will be required to set up your own account with the relevant social media site and you will be subject to terms and conditions prescribed by the operators of such sites.
